Chemical Blending Operators are responsible for operating batch chemical blending processes to manufacture chemical products and handling chemical materials in a safe and efficient manner.  Chemical handling activities include loading/unloading trucks and railcars, transferring chemicals to/from totes/drums and packaging products in totes/drums.

This role is a member of the production department and reports directly to the Production Supervisor/Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures and flowrates and transfer of materials.
  • Lift hoses, bolt flanges and operate valves and similar equipment including the proper clearing and isolation of equipment.
  • Report any safety issues immediately to supervisor and take appropriate action as needed, including system shut down to prevent injury or environmental release.
  • Control, monitor and make necessary adjustments on control systems and manually operate equipment.
  • Troubleshoot process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems and identify equipment requiring maintenance.
  • Ensure safe and efficient performance of production and project work following standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Act as a resource for other operators and/or maintenance employees on job tasks and prioritization of work activities.
  • Ensure quality control by performing testing on products and sampling when required.
  • Take ownership for the accurate completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Complete all batch records, process reports and documents associated with job tasks accurately and completely during shift operations.
  • Communicate status of in-process operations to supervisors and colleagues in a clear and concise manner to ensure efficient and safe plant operations.
  • Ensure security procedures are followed to maintain the security of the company’s plant and equipment.
  • Complete all duties as assigned with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Professional telephone etiquette (soft skills)/excellent communication skills
  • Computer skills within a Windows environment. MS Office skills are required (especially Excel and Outlook).
  • Understanding of general business concepts / ability to pull and analyze sales reports
  • Highly detailed and organized individual
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate well with vendors, business development, supply chain, and management team on a frequent basis.

Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Good math aptitude.  Employee must have the mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide and the ability to perform these operations using units of measure for weight, volume, and distance.
  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English, read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and product recipes/material identifications.  The employee must be able to communicate effectively in English in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Demonstrated high level of mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work in an empowered team environment, including the ability to effectively communicate, share information, resolve issues, give and receive both positive and negative feedback in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.), to lift twist and turn up to 50 lb. (i.e. open and close large valves),inspect equipment, and don emergency equipment as needed.
  • Due to safety sensitive nature of job, must pass regular & routine chemical dependency testing, annual respirator fit testing, and annual physical as required for certain tasks.
  • Prior chemical handling/manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Fork truck driver experience preferred.
